<description>These images were for the Simon Loves Honey lookbook—a new clothing line in Vancouver (photographer unknown). I retouched her skin on all photos—removed bruises, scars, birthmarks, and bags under her eyes, and softened the lines on her legs. I also removed the floor standing mark, and made specific changes on individual images. I changed fabric colours, darkened sheer fabric, removed fabric wrinkles, and even fixed an unruly toe! These are just a few examples of the bunch.

Click on the images to see the changes!
Note: retouched images are followed by the originals.

<description>Process book, mood board &#38; logo sketches
To display my entire process through this rebrand, I put together a book to document everything. I had a lot of information to include—research, sketches, thoughts and rationale. In order to comfortably fit all of the necessary information, I inserted vellum sheets between most pages which is where I put more personal thoughts about the process—what I liked or disliked and why I made certain decisions. This added an interactive element to the book to really engage the reader with my documentation of 12 weeks worth of work.

To see more of the process for this project, check out my blog.

Life and movement conveyed through a 3” x 6” print advertisement—my ultimate goal. In order to achieve this when crowded on a page by five other ads, simplicity was key.

I art directed an image that used bright, eye catching colour, reducing content down to the bare minimum. The company logo on the glove itself allowed me to show some detail of the product while eliminating the placement of a vector logo, saving space and clutter. The act of gardening is known to the viewer with only a macro image of a sunlit, dirt covered glove with a flowery background.

The three photographs in this case study were assigned to every student. Individually, we were responsible for choosing a client and strategy for an advertising campaign. The photos could be cropped, coloured, rotated or flipped, but we could not add another photograph. Graphic elements were acceptable and copy was optional, though likely necessary.

I conducted research on competitors to see what types of messages were being advertised by wedding planners. Words such as taste, class, elegance, sophistication, unforgettable, unique, and expertise came up frequently. For me, it was a matter of coming up with a strategy that would compliment the supplied photographs as greatly as it would showcase the strengths of the client.

Client: Piece of Cake! Wedding Consultants

Strategy: Stress-free wedding planning

Idea: We take care of all details—even the ones you would never think of

Brand Redux
For this project, I was to choose a brand whose existence is not as strong as it could or should be in it's respective industry—not just aesthetically, but philosophically as well. I created a position that would breathe new life into the brand. With this new direction, I came up with a new logo, business cards, sidewalk stickers (to advertise) and store-front design.

Key Messaging
· Focus on educating shoppers on their choices
· Linking the community through clinics and/or seminars
· Creating a one-on-one catered shopping feel

I created this stop motion in one of my typography classes. The whole purpose of the class was to think about typography in non-tranditional way, and also to be more hands on—create some physical type.

I took a simple task and created about as much work as I possibly could for myself, but learned a lot and made something really fun that I had never done before.

This clip was composed from approximately 400 photographs.

The process…

The process is quite simple, once you figure out the best way to go about it. To perform this technique, start with reverse photocopies or laser printer copies of the text, as it’s the toner that will transfer onto the canvas. Decide where the text/stencil will go on the canvas and tape it in place, toner side down, to better guarantee a nice crisp transfer. Apply a blender pen onto the paper until it is saturated and the text becomes visible—when they say “use in a well ventilated area,” they really mean it. Rub the area with a spoon in a vigorous fashion—it’s the vigor that really helps complete the process, which I found out the hard way. Peel the stencil off, close your eyes, cross your fingers, and hope that a dark enough print has transferred to the canvas.

I was left with varying results, and felt the best option was to colour over some of the transfers with black ink. The few paintings that I left as straight image transfers, The Creation of Adam and The Scream, coincidentally worked the best. I find the transfer treatment fits with the feelings and ideas behind both of those paintings; the creation of man and one’s haunting experience.

In action—finishing touches.

		<description>Southern Sea Ventures
—

This company runs sea kayak trips all over the world. Some trips are based on expedition ships—mostly in colder climates—while others are camping-type trips in warmer/tropical climates. Due to the abundance of information, the two general categories these trips fall into, and cost of mailing to clients around the world, I created two tri-fold brochures that fit in a standard size envelope.

The largest challenge for this project was fitting all required information (text) while including some decent size photographs to convey the beauty and unique nature of these trips. If it was possible, I would have made the brochure five times as big, just to add in some more full-size photographs—they are all so stunning!

Format: Tri-fold—fits in a standard size (DL) envelope.
Paper size: A3—folds in half to A4, then in thirds.
